How to Pick the Right Shade of Concealer

Choosing the right shade of concealer can be daunting. Do you go lighter or darker? What about those undereye circles or scars.

When choosing a concealer, you should consider both consistency and color. If you are covering major undereye circles, you're going to want a concealer that provides major coverage.

Yellow-toned products are your best bet for covering up undereye circles, according to makeup artist Bobbie Brown. Orange-based tones blend best into brown or dark skin. You want a shade or two lighter than your foundation (remember, your foundation should match your skin almost exactly).

Concealer is a definite "try before you buy" product. I don't recommend purchasing any product that's non-returnable. Instead, try out different concealers at department store counters or Sephora.

I'm still looking for that right shade of concealer.  What about you?

great post!
right now, i'm using mufe camoflage palette #4. i thought it would be a great investment b/c it has 5 different colors from which to choose. i can blend them as needed. there is a perfect match for my complex in the palette. i use the orange & the lightest w/ a MAC 224 brush for my under eye circles.

vixxan of theglamshack has it as well. she said the camo palettes from ebay are just as good. less $.
i still want to try MAC select moisture concealer though. not sure which shade to purchase.

I'm still looking for a concealer that covers really well. I broke out on my forehead...I have a small scar that's hard to cover.

Have to go to sephora to do some testing. Thanks for the suggestions :)

I use Clinique all about eyes concealer, it has good coverage, can be used as eyeshadow base (eye primer is a must anyways) and for my skin tone (honey tan) looks great!+ Isn't expensive at all. I know yellow skin tones mixed with brown are kinda hard to get a good match, Clinique and Mark has good options about colors shades.

Thanks for this blog post. I'm new to the whole makeup arena. Based on this post, I'm going to HAVE to go into a department store and get a beauty consultation. My fear is being pressured to BUY the product on the spot.

Hi this post was very useful, especially with warm and cool shades and colour correction etc, finding the right shade of concealer can be a real pain! I recently reviewed MAC studio finish concealer on my blog, read it here http://shakeandvelvetyo.blogspot.co.uk/2015/07/mac-studio-finish-spf-35-concealer.html
